GHP Staff Pass First Aid Certificates

On Wednesday 24 February the first group of GHP staff completed the rigorous one day First Aid Training Course and are now certified first aiders. There was plenty to learn and everyone was kept on track by our trusty first aid trainer, Mick Collins, who enthralled us with actual uses for first aid, from his 20 years as a paramedic. Mick's experiences made the theory and practical exercises very relevant and we could all see that what we were learning could be extremely useful, in an actual emergency situation. In a perfect world, we will never have to use the knowledge gained during the course, but if the situation arises we now feel that we could help out if needed.

Water, Water Everywhere!!

(pictured above: Damiro and Alloria Thomas enjoying some muscle building hill work as the rain comes down)

Recently we've been receiving torrential rain in Kilcoy and Glen Haven Park has never looked prettier! The good outdoor arena surface, walker, indoor arena and acres of parkland have meant that the horses are still getting plenty of work and everyone, horses and riders alike have been enjoying the cooler weather.

Lights! Camera! Action!

It was decided that photos were not enough to illustrate Glen Haven Park's journey to Singapore, so we commissioned cameraman extraordinaire, Peter Leeson, to take video footage of the team Singapore horses at the Caboolture training show, and of a typical day in the life here at the farm. You can see the results in the 5 minute video now on display on the GHP website home page. There won't be any Academy Awards given out for our performances but we think it offers a glimpse of the personalities of Glen Haven Park's people and the Singapore horses, all of whom are working so hard to help make showjumping at the Youth Olympic Games a huge success. There is also a very entertaining bloopers video, however, it won't be published on this website! We hope you enjoy our story!

January Team Member of the Month - Jacobine van Gijn

Life has been very busy at Glen Haven Park, with everyone working hard training and caring for the Team Singapore horses - January has gone by in a blur. Once again it's time to reward an outstanding staff member and this month's Team Member of the Month has gone to the very deserving groom, Jacobine van Gijn. Jacobine, originally from the Netherlands, has adapted very well to life at Glen Haven Park and is loving Australia. She is completely dedicated to the well being of the Singapore horses and is constantly putting their needs before her own. Jacobine has a wonderful attitude to her role as groom and to life in general and is always there with her sunny nature, if another member of the team needs cheering up or nurturing (equine and human!) It is a pleasure working with kind, good natured people and Jacobine is the finest example of such a person. Congratulations Jacobine!!

Caboolture Training Days

The last Thursday and Friday of January found the Glen Haven Park team once again trekking to the Caboolture Indoor Arena for training shows. Overall the horses jumped well over different courses and jumps during the full-on two days and the riders were pleased with their performances. With high temperatures and humidity it was good practice for Singapore for the horses and staff!
